- The Crisafulli Government is waiving the replacement cost for some driver related costs to support victims of crime.
- Queenslanders impacted by crime can replace driver licences, number plates, and other key identification documents free of charge.
- Free replacements will also be available for driver licences compromised due to cyber-crime.
The Crisafulli Government is providing greater support for victims of crime by waiving the cost of replacing driver licences, number plates and other key identification documents that have been stolen or damaged in a crime.
As promised before the election, the Crisafulli Government has made it free for Queenslanders who are victims of a crime to replace a:
- driver licence
- photo identification card
- industry authority card
- eligible number plate
The changes, which came into effect this week, applies where these items have been stolen, maliciously damaged, destroyed or lost because of a crime, including driver licences compromised by cyber-crime.
This initiative is expected to assist thousands of Queenslanders each year who are victims of crime, providing meaningful financial relief and reducing the burden on those impacted.
Minister for Transport and Main Roads Brent Mickelberg said the Crisafulli Government was committed to supporting Queenslanders impacted by crime.
"The free replacement of stolen driver licences and number plates is a small way that we are helping to alleviate financial stress on crime victims, allowing them to focus on recovery," Minister Mickelberg said.
"We are listening to our communities, unlike the former Labor government who let Queenslanders down and left them exposed to a ballooning Youth Crime Crisis.
"This is just another measure being implemented by the Crisafulli Government to help undo a decade of decline under Labor, and support crime victims to ensure they're not further impacted during challenging times."
