Queensland Government Walks with Jack

JOINT STATEMENT

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has paid further tribute to Brett and Belinda Beasley, announcing a $100,000 donation to the Jack Beasley Foundation.

The Premier said Brett and Belinda were simply inspirational.

"To grieve the loss of their beloved son Jack and yet still find the strength to campaign for measures to ensure no-one else endures their grief is truly admirable.

"It's with great pleasure that I commit a $100,000 grant to support the work they do with the Jack Beasley Foundation to promote community safety.

"In the last sitting of Parliament we introduced Jack's Law.

"Jack's Law extends and expands the successful trial of police wanding for knives and other dangerous weapons.

"Jack's Law will save lives.

"Thanks to Brett and Belinda that will be part of Jack's enduring legacy."

Police Minister Mark Ryan said the tireless efforts of Brett and Belinda had played a vital role in raising awareness about the danger of knives and other dangerous weapons.

"The government and myself personally will always be grateful for the selfless efforts of Brett and Belinda to promote community safety.

"They have suffered tremendous loss, had their precious Jack taken from them, yet have found the strength to give back to the community, to help others."

The Minister said today he and Police Commissioner Katarina Carroll would walk with the Beasley's in the annual "Walk with Jack" community event.

"This reflects the high esteem the government has for Brett and Belinda Beasley who have campaigned tirelessly to raise awareness and educate young people about the dangers knives and other weapons can pose."

Brett Beasley said he and Belinda were overwhelmed by the Premier's donation.

"To have the support of Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and Police Minister Mark Ryan is unreal.

"This is a life-changer for the Jack Beasley Foundation.

"This money will go a long way to help with the education program we take into schools to teach young kids not to carry knives."
