- Queensland set to host the AusBioInvest and AusBiotech International Conference for 2026 and 2027.
- These events will be held on the Gold Coast (2026) and in Brisbane (2027), attracting over 1,600 global delegates each year.
- Securing these events is an important part of Crisafulli Government's strategy to grow priority industries and strengthen sovereign capability.
Queensland has secured the rights to host the AusBiotech International Conference, Australia's largest and most influential biotechnology conference, in 2026 and 2027.
The announcement was made today by Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning, Jarrod Bleijie, at the AusBiotech 2025 International Conference in Melbourne.
The AusBioInvest conference, AusBiotech's premier investment platform, will also be staged for the first time in Queensland as part of the program, connecting Australian biotech companies with global investors.
To be hosted on the Gold Coast in 2026 and in Brisbane in 2027, these events bring together more than 1,600 delegates each year from over 20 countries. Unlike the former Labor Government's haphazard approach to industry development with 11 priority areas, including non-viable industries, the Crisafulli Government's newly established $180.6 million Sovereign Industry Development Fund (SIDF) will help build sovereign industry capability and leverage Queensland's strengths in the re-focused State Development priorities of Defence, Biomedical and Biofuels.
The $180.6 million SIDF forms part of the Crisafulli Government's plan to revitalise Queensland's industrial base, attract private investment and secure long-term economic growth.
The Crisafulli Government secured the 2026 and 2027 events through Tourism and Events Queensland, in partnership with AusBiotech Ltd.
Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning Jarrod Bleijie said today's announcement was a strategic win for Queensland.
"Biomedical is a priority industry for the Crisafulli Government – and hosting the AusBiotech International Conference and AusBioInvest will help us showcase our strengths, attract global investment, strengthen our international partnerships, and grow our sovereign capability," Deputy Premier Bleijie said.
"These events will be hosted in Brisbane and the Gold Coast, showcasing not only our cutting-edge biomedical capabilities but our enviable lifestyle as well.
"In the lead up to the 2032 Games and beyond, Queensland is the place to do business and we want as many biomedical industry leaders to bring their skills, staff and products to our State.
"The Crisafulli Government recently opened applications for its new $180.6 million Sovereign Industry Development Fund, which will invest in investment-ready projects across the biomedical, defence and biofuels industries in Queensland. "Queensland is open for business after a decade of decline under the former Labor Government and this fund will unlock new economic opportunities across the State."
Minister for the Environment and Tourism and Minister for Science and Innovation, Andrew Powell said Queensland's health innovation ecosystem was thriving, so the Crisafulli Government was proud to support events like AusBiotech through Tourism and Events Queensland.
"These conferences elevate Australia's reputation as a leader in research and commercialisation while also delivering strong economic outcomes for our state and it's tourism sector," Minister Powell said.
"I look forward to welcoming delegates from around the globe to Queensland and encourage everyone to stay a little longer and explore our incredible destinations, from the reef to the rainforest and beyond."
