Premier and Minister for the Olympics The Honourable Annastacia Palaszczuk

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk will personally express Queensland's condolences over the death of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe when she meets with the Japanese Consul-General tomorrow.

The Premier will also sign the official condolence book.

In consultation with the Speaker, Parliament House will join other Brisbane landmarks lit tonight in red and white in tribute to Mr Abe and the people of Japan.

A night vigil is being held in Tokyo this evening ahead of a private funeral tomorrow.

"Mr Abe was at the forefront of forging closer ties between his people and ours," the Premier said.

"Close ties promote peace and prosperity.

"Mr Abe's loss has shocked and saddened us all."

Speaker Curtis Pitt said Parliament House would be lit in the colours of the Japanese flag in honour of Mr Abe.

"We stand in solidarity with peace-loving people and Mr Abe was a leader in that cause," the Speaker said.
