The Queensland Police Service (QPS) has been recognised with five awards at the Australian Crime and Violence Prevention Awards (ACVPA), for their ongoing excellence in crime prevention initiatives and commitment to building safer communities across Queensland.
The awards celebrated programs that seek to reduce violence and crime, improve community safety and wellbeing, and strengthen relationships between the public and police.
ACVPA are coordinated by the Australian Institute of Criminology and recognise the outstanding projects that reduce crime and violence in Australian communities.
Commissioner Steve Gollschewski APM commended both the dedicated sworn and unsworn members behind each initiative for their innovation, compassion and commitment to crime and violence prevention.
"These awards are a reflection of the incredible people who make up the Queensland Police Service," Commissioner Gollschewski said.
"These initiatives demonstrate the strength of our Service and the innovation that defines modern policing.
"From protecting children and engaging young people, to harnessing digital intelligence and building community connections, these programs highlight the dedication of our Service."
Amongst awarded programs is the Safer Together program that was presented with the prestigious gold award.
Safer Together is an evidence-based community safety initiative designed to empower Queensland communities to prevent crime, reduce fear, and strengthen connections with police.
Developed under the Digital Intelligence Community Engagement (DICE) Prevention Capability, the initiative was co-designed with District Crime Prevention Officers and local communities to build crime prevention capability across Queensland.
Through a collaborative and research-informed approach, Safer Together helps officers better understand what drives local concerns about safety and equips them with tools and knowledge to take practical action.
The initiative reduces the fear of crime, raises awareness about how individuals can promote safety in their area, and strengthens pathways for community members to connect meaningfully with the QPS.
By linking Safer Together and Community Safety Champions, its companion program, the program achieves a balance between local empowerment and strategic prevention.
It creates long-term engagement and sustainability without adding pressure to frontline officers.
DICE Prevention supports this by facilitating the research, development, implementation, and evaluation of tailored crime prevention initiatives, removing administrative burden from districts while ensuring each project reflects local context and need.
