Queenslanders urged to show kindness to workers on Easter Sunday

Minister for Education, Minister for Industrial Relations and Minister for Racing The Honourable Grace Grace

Queenslanders enjoying time with their family and friends this Easter Sunday public holiday have been asked to be compassionate to workers serving them today at cafes, restaurants, fast food outlets and retail stores.

Industrial Relations Minister Grace Grace said those spending the public holiday working deserve respect.

"People working today are giving up valuable family time to carry out important jobs for Queensland," Ms Grace said.

"They are allowing Queenslanders and Easter visitors to our great state to share a meal together on this special day – whether that's out and about or at home – by going to work, and for that we thank them.

"Remember: no-one deserves a serve while serving you. A little kindness goes a long way.

"Workers' efforts during this busy Easter period are vital to Queensland's economy as the Palaszczuk Government continues to carry out our COVID-19 Economic Recovery Plan."

Ms Grace said it is important that workers are paid the correct penalty rates by their employers on public holidays.

"Those who miss out on spending time with their loved ones on Easter Sunday because of work are entitled to be paid public holiday rates," Ms Grace said.

"That is why the Palaszczuk Government legislated to make Easter Sunday a public holiday in Queensland back in 2017.

"We will always stick up for workers' rights to get their fair share in Queensland."
