Medical expert and former parliamentarian Dr Anthony Lynham is among members of the QUT community recognised in the Australia Day 2026 Honours List.
From contributions to trauma medicine, public policy, and literature, to community health and sport, QUT alumni, staff and partners continue to make an enduring impact locally and globally.
A total of 680 Australians received awards in the General Division of the Order of Australia in 2026 with 208 of those given the highest honours – a Companion (AC), Officer (AO) or Member (AM) of the Order of Australia.
Among the honourees are:
Dr Anthony Lynham AO, Adjunct Professor, QUT-connected healthcare tech company senior executive, appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia for distinguished service to trauma medicine as an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, to the Parliament of Queensland, and to the community
Kim Anderson AM, supporter of the QUT Centre of Excellence, appointed a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to literature, and to the publishing industry
John Forrest OAM RFD, Life Member of the QUT Cricket Club, given a Medal of the Order of Australia for service to cricket
Michel Itel OAM, QUT Research Participant and Patient Advocate Mentor, Early Career Researchers, given a Medal of the Order of Australia in the General Division for service to Community Health.
QUT Vice-Chancellor Professor Margaret Sheil AO said she was proud of the honourees, recognising their embodiment of the QUT core values.

"Seeing members of the QUT community acknowledged in this way speaks to the remarkable calibre, depth and dedication of our people," Professor Sheil said.
"We are proud to champion a university culture where diversity is valued and everyone is empowered and supported to grow, succeed and lead.
"These honours being bestowed in our community serve a testament to the passion, resilience, and creativity of our alumni, staff, and collaborators, who are leading the way in transforming lives and creating positive change in the world."
