Racing Minister Ogilvie untruthful about Tasracing CEO departure

Tasmanian Labor

Racing Minister Madeline Ogilvie has not been truthful about the nature of former Tasracing CEO Paul Eriksson's exit from the role.

Under questioning at today's Tasracing GBE hearing from Labor Elwick MLC Josh Willie, it was revealed by Tasracing Chairman Gene Phair that the Tasracing Board had in fact terminated Mr. Eriksson's employment following a staff culture survey, which is contrary to Minister Ogilvie's media statement on 6 July saying Mr Eriksson had chosen to leave for family reasons.

In that 6 July statement Ms Ogilvie said, "I would like to thank Mr Eriksson for his service as Chief Executive Officer of Tasracing. Mr Eriksson will be returning to Sydney to spend more time with his family."

This false statement by Ms Ogilvie unfortunately reflects the modus operandi of this Liberal Government where routine cover-up and secrecy is part of a culture that has been on display all year.

It is clear the Racing Minister has not been truthful which is in breach of Parliamentary Standing Orders and the Ministerial Code of Conduct.

Tasmanians deserve a government that is transparent and honest, and today, again, we have seen the complete opposite of that.
