Expression of interest - RACS Community Advisor on the Committee of Paediatric Surgery

The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) is committed to ensuring the highest standard of surgical care through surgical education, training and continuous professional development. RACS supports the ongoing development, maintenance of expertise and lifelong learning that accompanies the surgical practice of more than 7,000 surgeons and 1,300 surgical trainees and International Medical Graduates.

RACS Council represents the surgical specialties across all Australian regions and Aotearoa New Zealand and is responsible for the diverse work of the College. The Committee of Surgical Education and Training (CSET), accountable to Council through the Education Committee, is responsible for the regulation and administration of the nine RACS Surgical Education and Training (SET) programs in Cardiothoracic, General, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedic, Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, Paediatric, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Urology and Vascular Surgery.

CSET is also responsible for the assessment of Specialist International Medical Graduates (SIMG) seeking Fellowship with RACS for specialised practice in Australia and New Zealand. The Specialty Training Committees/Boards (STC/Bs) have oversight for the conduct of the RACS (SET) training programs.
Community Advisors have an important role in keeping community expectations central to decision making.

The Committee of Paediatric Surgery is calling for applications for the position of Community Advisor:
• Do you have a demonstrated interest in health and training?
• Can you represent the interests of the community?
• Do you understand the demands placed on the surgical profession?

Community Advisors contribute to robust, transparent decision-making that aligns with the College's mission, vision, values as well as strategic and business plans, while ensuring community and health consumer interests are considered.
