Ramsden Street Reserve stormwater harvesting Project

We've partnered with the Victorian Government and the University of Melbourne to deliver a new and exciting project that will provide a more sustainable and innovative way of capturing, treating and reusing stormwater at Ramsden Street Reserve.

As part of a grant received through the Victorian Government's Building Works package to deliver this project, we'll repurpose old rubber car tyres into penetrable pavement and capture, treat and store stormwater in an underground system to be used for irrigation at Ramsden Street Reserve in Clifton Hill.

The project builds on the experience of our Infrastructure unit and years of research by the University of Melbourne. It's an innovative new way to achieve the principles of integrated water management within the space constraints of a highly built and developed urban environment. The new system will also reduce the volume of stormwater run-off to local drains and waterways while cooling down the environment and helping to ease flood risk.

The stored water will be reused for local irrigation, and is based on the principles of a circular economy where we're repurposing old and used tyres to improve our local parks and open space.

This project allows us to improve and upgrade local community infrastructure while supporting jobs. It's part of our response to the climate emergency and making our local infrastructure more resilient and sustainable in the long-term.
