Bayside City Council is encouraging community members with any information on the unauthorised translocation of Growling Grass Frogs to Yalukit Willam Nature Reserve to speak with the Conservation Regulator.
The Conservation Regulator is currently investigating the offence after Council confirmed the presence of Growling Grass Frogs - a federally protected species at the Yalukit Willam Nature Reserve following sightings from local volunteers.
Council is transforming the former Elsternwick golf course into Yalukit Willam Nature Reserve. The transformation continues to reshape the area into a significant natural retreat, designed to bring nature back into Bayside and give the community a calm, green space to enjoy.
Bayside City Council CEO Matthew Cripps, "While Council welcomes native wildlife returning to the area, unexpected amphibian arrivals were not part of the project plan.
"We are asking people with any information on the illegal activity to please contact the relevant authorities.
"We are incredibly excited with the progress we have made so far at Yalukit Willam, which will provide our community with vital open space for recreation and social connection."
The significant project is being delivered and maintained by Bayside City Council, with funding support from the Australian Government.
