A new 65-unit affordable rental development at Queens Walk is nearing completion, providing more homes to Tasmanians who need them.
Minister for Housing, Planning and Consumer Affairs, Felix Ellis, said the Tasmanian Government was investing more than $26.5 million into the Queens Walk project, to get more Tasmanians into homes, faster.
"We are working to ensure every Tasmanian has not just a roof over their head, but a place to call home," Minister Ellis said.
"Projects like Queens Walk have significant benefits right across the community, helping to keep our economy strong, upskilling the next generation of tradespeople, supporting Tasmanian jobs and provide much-needed housing.
"The Queens Walk units will be completed in the coming months, with the development taking the total homes at the site to 149.
"Once completed, the additional units will contribute towards our goal of delivering 10,000 additional social and affordable homes by 2032.
"The Tasmanian Government has already delivered over 43 per cent of the commitment, with 4,345 social and affordable homes completed at the end of March.
"Queens Walk is a great example of multi-story medium density, in-fill apartment living using available vacant land to build more homes.
"We want to seize on these opportunities and we will continue to unlock vacant land with almost 10,000 new homes on the horizon as part of our expansion of Greater Hobart's Urban Growth Boundary.
"I want to thank Fairbrother and Housing Choices Tasmania for their support with this project and many others across our State.
"By working together, we are delivering on the things that matter for Tasmanians.
"And importantly, we are building a better Tasmania: now, and for the future."
