The Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Foreign Affairs, participated in a G7 Foreign Ministers' Meeting by videoconference today. United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo hosted counterparts from Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, the U.K. as well as the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
They discussed the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on supply chains and the global economy; developing countries; and the broader geopolitical context.
They also stressed the importance of reinforcing their commitment to strengthening the United Nations' and the World Health Organization's response to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.
Minister Champagne led the discussion on Myanmar, where he reiterated the importance of G7 unity and the need for continued commitment to the Rohingya people.
Broader discussions also focused on Afghanistan, China, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Russia, the Sahel and Syria.
