It's WA Bike Month - a time for all Western Australians, to dust off their helmet, pump up the tyres and give bike riding a go.
- WA Bike Month runs from 1 to 31 October 2025
- Free bike riding events are being held across the State
- People of all ages and abilities are encouraged to give bike riding a go, explore their local networks and discover the joy and benefits of active travel.
The annual month-long celebration encourages people of all ages and abilities to discover the joy and benefits that bike riding has to offer, all the while building confidence and exploring the beauty of our neighbourhoods in a more active way.
WA Bike Month is an initiative of the Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure (DTMI), and in partnership with RAC, has awarded more than $80,000 in grants to local governments, organisations, schools and community groups to host fun, family-friendly activities across the State.
Key events in 2025:
- Bunbury Glow Ride: Fit out your bike with lights and glow sticks and enjoy a twilight ride around Luciana Park.
- Gnowangerup Community Gravel: A fun-filled afternoon in our Great Southern, with guided rides, a free bike mechanic and kids obstacle courses on offer.
- Mountain Bike Fun Day: Hone your riding skills with an all ages and abilities mountain bike coaching day.
- All Abilities Bike Festival: An inclusive road safety adventure for children with disability, including learning how to navigate real-world road scenarios, from traffic lights and intersections to train stations and school zones.
- WA Bike Month Festival: A family-friendly festival in Point Walter to wrap up the celebration month, enjoy bike games, skills sessions, a free bike mechanic and lots of interesting stallholders.
DTMI A/Executive Director Urban Mobility Michelle Prior said WA Bike Month provides the perfect opportunity to make the most of the riding network and facilities, explore surroundings and connect with community.
"WA Bike Month is a highlight on our annual calendar," Ms Prior said.
"This flagship celebration gives novice and rusty riders a chance to participate in fun events, engage with their community and discover the vast walking and riding networks in their local areas.
"Many of the exciting activities on offer would not be possible without the support and enthusiasm of countless volunteers - a special thanks also to RAC for their funding contribution, helping to ensure more groups have an opportunity to engage their communities through dedicated events.
"It's not just about participating throughout October - WA Bike Month can be the kick-start to a healthier, more sustainable and significantly cheaper way to get around to activity centres, public transport and other key destinations.
"Our State is exceeding the national rate of bike riding participation at 37.6 per cent in the past year, second only to the ACT, which is very encouraging.
"We're proud to support all Western Australians to walk, wheel and ride as part of their everyday journeys and experiences."
