- 2025-26 Budget locks in long-term pipeline of social and community housing construction with a $5.6 billion investment pipeline.
- 240 social and affordable homes are in construction or under contract across the Sunshine Coast region to deliver a place to call home for more Sunshine Coast residents.
The Crisafulli Government is delivering a fresh start for the Sunshine Coast, with construction progressing on a major housing project that will deliver 63 new social homes at Birtinya.
The project will include a mix of one, two and three-bedroom units to give more vulnerable Queenslanders a place to call home.
All homes will be accessible to meet the needs of seniors and people with disabilities and the complex will feature communal areas to help build a sense of community.
The Birtinya development is due for completion in mid-2026, with the basement structure of the building now in place.
The Crisafulli Government's 2025-26 Budget delivers $8.1 billion to secure our housing foundations and deliver a place to call home for more Queenslanders with one new million homes, including 53,500 social and community homes, by 2044.
As part of this commitment, a record $5.6 billion will be invested in new social and community housing over the next four years to deliver on that goal.
The 2025-26 Budget includes $43.9 million allocated to expand and improve social and community housing in the Sunshine Coast.
Additionally, and for the first time, the Budget also locks in baseline funding of $500 million per year from 2029–30, creating a long-term pipeline of social and community homes for Queenslanders most in need.
It follows a decade of underinvestment in social and community housing by the former Government, leading to Labor's Housing Crisis and record waitlists.
Across the Sunshine Coast, 240 social homes are already in construction or under contract to be delivered. This includes:
70 social and affordable homes at Beerwah under construction
26 social homes due to start construction soon at Sippy Downs
18 social homes under construction at Maroochydore
The Crisafulli Government's Budget also locks in a 20 per cent uplift in support for specialist homelessness services across the Sunshine Coast and more than doubles funding for head leased properties to house our most vulnerable over the next four years.
Housing Minister Sam O'Connor said social and community housing developments like the new Birtinya complex were critical to creating stable, sustainable communities that supported economic and social inclusion.
"The Crisafulli Government's first Budget delivers $5.6 billion for social and community housing — the biggest investment Queensland has ever seen — and this Birtinya development shows what that funding will deliver," Minister O'Connor said.
"With other local projects in the pipeline, it means accessible, secure homes for more vulnerable Queenslanders to have a place to call home.
"Labor created Queensland's housing crisis by failing to have housing delivery keep pace with population growth — we're turning things around with record long-term funding, by cutting red tape, and by empowering the community housing sector to get more homes built sooner."
Deputy Premier and Member for Kawana Jarrod Bleijie said the Budget was focused on long-term planning for a growing state and delivering a place to call home for more Queenslanders.
"Our first Budget is delivering record investment in social and community housing, with the Sunshine Coast a key focus," Deputy Premier Bleijie said.
"After years of inaction under Labor we're backing one of Queensland's fastest-growing regions, with the homes, infrastructure and planning support it needs.
"Through our housing construction pipeline we're unlocking more housing supply across the Sunshine Coast region."
