The Northern Territory Fire and Emergency Services (NTFES) is pleased to announce the graduation of 12 new firefighters who are ready to serve and protect the Northern Territory.
During an intensive 19-week course, Recruit Squad 52 successfully completed training in road crash rescue, advanced first aid, urban search and rescue, on and off-road driving, hazardous materials, wildfires, breathing apparatus (BA), pump operations, communications and urban fire suppression.
The squad, which is made up of 10 Territorians and 2 interstaters, will formally commence on shift in late December. Four of the recruits will be based in Alice Springs and the remaining 8 will serve in Darwin.
During their graduation ceremony, the following recruits were recognised for their outstanding efforts:
Firefighting Excellence Award - Recruit Firefighter Jayden Shaw. Academic Excellence Award - Recruit Firefighter Aaron Griggs. Silver Axe Award, presented to the recruit who has shown outstanding achievements in all facets of the recruit course - Recruit Firefighter Luke Challman.
In an exciting effort, Squad 52 also raised over $7,500 for Foodbank SA & NT (Northern Territory operations), which will provide more than 15,100 meals for people in need. The group also made 19 blood and plasma donations to Lifeblood during their training, saving the equivalent of 57 lives. This hands-on community support reflects the broader commitment of NTFRS firefighters to service and protect, not only through emergency response, but by giving back in meaningful ways that strengthen the Territory community.
The next round of NTFRS recruits will commence training in February.
