City of Greater Geelong residents can now recycle more items, including X-rays, eyeglasses, plastic lids and small e-waste, in addition to batteries and CD/DVDs, at Wurriki Nyal Civic Precinct during business hours – Monday to Friday between 9:00am and 5:00pm.
An expanded new recycling station is being trialled following community feedback.
X-rays containing silver can now be recycled, meaning less silver needs to be mined. Pens and markers can also be recycled, with the fibres and plastics recycled into raw formats to make new products, such as outdoor furniture, watering cans, construction applications and much more.
Lids4Kids recycle the plastic bottle lids into plastic products such as park benches, kitchen splashbacks and cubby house roof tiles. Eyeglasses have their lenses popped out of them and are donated overseas by the Lions Club.

I look forward to more innovation and industry development in this important area. By having a more circular economy we can reduce our waste, drive greater resource productivity, and deliver a more competitive economy, while reducing environmental impacts of production and consumption.
The City is piloting the new station to gauge community response and while there are no immediate plans to add more expanded recycling stations around the municipality, CD/DVD and battery recycling collection points at municipal libraries across the region continue to be serviced.

It's time to act collectively to reduce waste and drive greater resource productivity. By centrally locating an expanded new recycling station in our Wurriki Nyal Civic Precinct, we are providing community members with more ways they can reduce the waste that otherwise would end up in landfill.
