The fourth annual Showdown at the Soundshell saw 20 young musicians take to the stage at the Gargarro Botanic Garden's Soundshell in Girgarre on Sunday, 29 March, competing for top honours and showcasing local talent.

Local families and music lovers from across the shire enjoyed an afternoon of live performances, complemented by a free sausage sizzle, fairy floss, snow cones and food trucks. Performers, aged 12 to 18, competed in solo and band categories before a panel of experienced judges, gaining valuable performance experience and constructive feedback in a supportive live setting.

Campaspe Shire Mayor Cr Daniel Mackrell presented the following awards:

  • 1st place - Matilda Altoft
  • 2nd place - Blake Robinson
  • 3rd place - Maggie Oliver
  • Best Young Artist - Harlow Sleeth
  • Born n' Bred Recording Studio session - Lucy Herberte

"Events like Showdown at the Soundshell play an important role in nurturing creativity and giving regional young people a platform to be heard," Cr Mackrell said.

"It was an absolute delight to see each of the participants shine on stage, with great support and attendance from our community.

"Council is committed to fostering inclusive cultural opportunities across the shire, and it's fantastic to see our local youth gaining confidence and recognition through live performance," he said.

The event was presented in partnership with the Girgarre Development Group, Gargarro Botanic Gardens and Campaspe Shire Council, with additional support from Born n' Bred Australian Red Dirt and funding through the Victorian State Government's Amplify! Program.
