Noosa Council's Doonan Resource Recovery Centre will remain closed for the rest of Wednesday following an overnight blaze in the steel stockpile area of the site.
Fire authorities are still on the scene, and with the site of the fire still smouldering the decision not to reopen the facility was made on safety grounds.
Staff will re assess the situation tomorrow morning and make a call on whether it is safe to reopen all or some parts of the Resource Recovery Centre.
The Cooroy Waste Transfer Station, located at 191 Mary River Rd, Cooroy, remains open until 3pm today for the disposal of green waste only. The site is limited to access via smaller vehicles, including cars, utes and trailers, but it cannot accommodate trucks.
Council aims to reopen the Resource Recovery Centre on Eumundi Noosa Road at Doonan as soon as it is safe to do so, and thanks the community for its patience.
