Resources Roundtables To Promote Productivity Agenda

Dept of Industry, Science and Resources

Minister for Resources and Northern Australia Madeleine King has convened two roundtable discussions with Australia's resources sector to discuss the Albanese Government's productivity agenda.

The roundtables in Perth today will provide valuable sector insights that will feed into the Albanese Government's Economic Reform Roundtable, to be led by Treasurer Jim Chalmers in Canberra in August.

Minister King said Australia's resources sector has worked hard over decades to carve out a leading role as a globally significant producer of the minerals and metals that the world needs.

"The resources sector has for decades invested in innovation and productivity enhancement, which has helped to cement Australia's position as a global resources powerhouse," Minister King said.

"The resources sector is among the most productive sectors of the national economy and the insights from this sector will help shape key questions on national productivity."

Minister King will meet with senior leaders of resources companies and host a second roundtable with leaders from the critical minerals and rare earths mining and processing sectors.

"Australia's critical minerals sector faces unique set of circumstances to scaling up their operations and securing investment," Minister King said.

"The Albanese Government wants to ensure our world-leading resources sector is seizing a new generation of opportunities in critical minerals, which are a key component of the Government's Future Made in Australia agenda."

Minister King will host further roundtable discussions in coming weeks, including with union leadership in Western Australia and key stakeholders across Northern Australia.
