Respecting And Recognising Our Veterans

The Andrews Labor Government is making important investments that properly respect the contribution and sacrifice made by our Veterans, while continuing to recognise that they have so much to contribute to our state.

Victorian veterans will have access to alternate career paths and more health and wellbeing services with $7.8 million in the Victorian Budget 2019/20.

The Labor Government's Veterans in Construction program will secure work for at least 100 veterans across our major infrastructure projects and other private sector jobs.

The Budget also delivers on our promise that every government school will host a Vietnam veteran as a guest speaker.

The initiative will make sure the next generation are educated about the sacrifices 60,000 Australians made to serve our nation during the Vietnam War, including the 521 who tragically never made it home.

The Budget includes $1 million for the Vietnam Veterans Association of Australia and $1.5 million to expand trauma facilities at the Centenary of Anzac Centre.

The Government is also honouring the service of our veterans by planning a 75th anniversary event of the Second World War in 2020, as well as weekly Last Post Ceremonies at the Shrine of Remembrance.

The Budget also provides $50,000 for a security assessment at the Shrine of Remembrance so it meets international security standards for major events.

As stated by Minister for Veterans Robin Scott

"The Andrews Labor Government is so proud to support our younger veterans retrain and reskill when they leave the service as we recognise that they have so much to contribute to our state."

"Our veterans served to protect the values that have made Victoria a diverse and inclusive society. Respecting their legacy ensures our shared values persist."
