Major conservation works are now underway at the Goulburn Historic Waterworks Pumphouse, with the museum temporarily closed to the public over the coming weeks while specialist painters carry out the restoration.
The project will see the repainting of the interior and exterior of the iconic 1880s Pumphouse, returning the building to its original heritage colour palette and addressing long-standing deterioration. The works form an essential part of preserving one of Australia's rarest and most significant pieces of industrial heritage.
This important conservation project is made possible through funding from Goulburn Mulwaree Council, alongside generous support from the Veolia Mulwaree Trust and the NSW Government.
Mayor Dillon said the restoration marks a major step forward in caring for one of Goulburn's most treasured heritage sites.
"Restoring the Pumphouse ensures its story continues to be shared with future generations. This work strengthens its role as a key visitor experience, an educational resource, and a place of real pride for our community."
While the museum will be closed during the works, the broader Waterworks grounds remain open for passive recreation, with a temporary interpretive space available in the Cafe from Saturday to Tuesday.
