Retail Theft Operation Targets Offenders In Orange

The Central West Police District Proactive Crime Team has reinforced its commitment to reducing retail crime following a targeted loss prevention operation conducted in Orange this week.

In September 2026, the Central West Police District Proactive Crime Team hosted a Retail Theft Forum involving local and state retail managers, security personnel and police. The forum focused on strengthening partnerships, improving reporting processes and enhancing responses to property crime across the region.

In support of the forum, officers conducted a loss prevention operation across Orange between Tuesday 7 October and Wednesday 8 October 2026.

Police deployed a number of covert officers to target alleged stealing offences and anti-social behaviour in retail precincts.

During the operation, police:

  • Arrested and charged five people with alleged stealing and trespass offences;
  • Issued eight Field Court Attendance Notices;
  • Issued 21 Criminal Infringement Notices;
  • Served 38 Banning Notices;
  • Conducted 41 person searches; and
  • Issued five youth cautions.

During the operation, police recovered more than $3,000 worth of property alleged to have been stolen and returned it to business owners.

Police are urging retailers to continue reporting theft-related incidents and suspicious activity.

Inquiries continue.
