Reward annouced for Sunshine armed robbery

Victoria Police has announced a reward of up to $350,000 following a vicious armed robbery in Sunshine last year, Victoria Police say.

Four people were in the car park of a licensed premise in Talmage Street just before 1am on Tuesday 19 December, following an event at the venue.

The man and three women were talking when a man has walked out from behind a dumpster.

The man then pointed a firearm at the group and made demands for the building to be opened.

He then struck the male victim, who is aged in his 70s, in the chest, arm and head with the firearm.

The man continued to make threats against the group, pointing the firearm at one of the women, who is also aged in her 70s.

The man picked up a set of keys dropped by the male victim, and the alarm of the victim’s car was subsequently triggered.

The man then ran from the scene and turned left towards Albion Railway Station.

The male victim suffered a serious head injury and an arm injury, while the three female victims were physically uninjured.

The male victim’s mobile phone was stolen during the incident.

The man is described as being about 182cm tall, with a thin build, light coloured eyes and perceived to be Caucasian in appearance.

At the time he was wearing dark loose-fitting pants, a dark windcheater, runners and a dark coloured balaclava over his face.

A reward of up to $350,000 will be paid, at the discretion of the Chief Commissioner of Police, for information leading to the apprehension and subsequent conviction of the person or persons responsible for the assault of the man.

In appropriate cases, the DPP may consider, according to established guidelines, the granting of indemnification from prosecution to any person who provides information as to the identity of the principal offender or offenders in this matter.

Any payment of a reward will be subject to the applicant signing a deed of confidentiality prior to payment.

An information caravan will also be set up in Sunshine today between 10am and 2pm at 301 Hampshire Road.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area on Tuesday 19 December following the event at the premises on Talmage Street.

Police are appealing for public help and urge anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
