Rider burned when motorbike catches fire after crash - Peakhurst

A man is being treated for serious burns after his motorcycle burst into flames at Peakhurst overnight.

Police have been told the 18-year-old man was riding the motorbike along Belmore Road about 8pm (Saturday 29 August 2020), when he crashed.

The man picked up the bike and was attempting to ride it when it burst into flames, engulfing the rider.

He ran to a property nearby and the flames were put out with a fire extinguisher.

The man then went to a home in Lugarno where officers from St George Police Area Command and NSW Ambulance paramedics found him suffering extensive burns.

He has been taken to Royal North Shore Hospital's Burns Unit for treatment.

The motorbike has been seized for examination and inquiries are continuing.
