River Committee has say on City to River

Wimmera River Improvement Committee (WRIC) has had its say on the City to River Draft Masterplan and is encouraging the Horsham community to do the same.

The Draft Masterplan proposes to develop a stronger connection between central Horsham and the river with a cafe and boardwalks included in a concept plan that is open for feedback until the end of the month.

WRIC Chairman Gary Aitken said his Committee was looking forward to being involved in the vision.

"It's exciting to see ideas for the future development of the Wimmera River which is our greatest asset. It will encourage more of the community to get out and enjoy our natural surroundings," Mr Aitken said.

"It's also pleasing to see the new vision respects William Guilfoyle's plan for the Horsham Botanical Gardens from 1880," he said.

Mr Aitken said it was important that anybody with feedback took the time lodge a formal submission.

"We know many Horsham people enjoy our natural surrounds. I'd like to encourage those people to become involved in the engagement process," he said.

Residents and other stakeholders can have their say on the draft plan via information sessions and by lodging submissions online and in writing until Friday 30 August.

All feedback will be captured and eventually form part of the final Masterplan which will be presented to Councillors, who will have the final say on whether it is adopted.
