Rivervale Disturbance

Just after 10:00pm last night, Saturday 25 July 2020, Police were called to St Kilda Road, Rivervale in relation to a disturbance occurring in the street.

It is believed the group had come from a party being held along the street.

Upon arrival police observed a group of people assaulting a man. OC Spray was deployed to prevent further assault on the man and the group fled the area.

Due to the behaviour of the people who remained in the area the situation was declared as 'Likely to Become an Out of Control Gathering' and the group was dispersed.

During the response to the incident a 16-year-old girl who was refusing to move away from a group of people fighting was bitten on one of her legs by a police dog. The girl, who had blood in her mouth from a previous incident, spat on police and continued to yell and act aggressively. She was arrested on suspicion of Obstruct Public Officer and Assault Public Officer. She was taken to hospital by St John Ambulance and the investigation into her conduct is ongoing. Contact was made with a parent, who refused to collect her. Due to her age and level of intoxication, and the inability to locate a suitable responsible adult to care for her, the girl was released into the care of the hospital pending further investigation.

A number of other juveniles were detained due to their age and a girl, who is believed to be 14-years-old, was taken to hospital by St John Ambulance after being located intoxicated and unresponsive.

A 19-year-old Mirrabooka woman was arrested and will be charged by summons with Obstruct Public Officer.
