RMIT Holds Firm in Global University Rankings

RMIT

RMIT has retained its place among the world's top 125 universities in the latest QS World University Rankings, a highly influential international ranking system.

RMIT ranked 125 globally and 10 in Australia. Over the past five years, the University has strengthened its reputation as a leading international institution, climbing almost 100 places from 223 globally.

For the first time, RMIT has broken into the top 100 in the world for research citations per faculty, ranking at 98. The University has also boosted its reputation among the international academic community, ranking just outside the top 200.

RMIT remains the top-ranked university in Australia, and 45 globally, for the proportion of academic talent attracted from overseas. This demonstrates that we have a strong global reputation, diverse perspectives in teaching and research, and leaders in international collaboration.

RMIT's Director of Strategic Insights, Angel Calderon, said while RMIT's overall position dropped slightly from equal 123rd last year, its overall trajectory was positive.

"It's encouraging to see RMIT's scores for academic reputation and research citations on the rise, particularly in a competitive landscape where many other Australian universities experienced a decline," Mr Calderon said.

In another ranking released this week, RMIT has been recognised for its sustainability achievements, ranking 56 globally and 11 in Australia.

The Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings assess 2,300 universities against the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

RMIT scored 5 globally for Reducing Inequalities (SDG10), despite its overall results in THE Impact Rankings dropping this year. The University faced stiff competition, with a 20% increase in the number of participating institutions.

"As universities worldwide strive to become sustainability leaders, the standards for best practice are rapidly expanding," Mr Calderon.

"It's excellent to see RMIT maintain a top 5 global rating for Reducing Inequalities, and we're committed to building on this achievement."
