RMIT has risen to 239th globally in the latest Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, up from an estimated 266th last year, and now ranks 13th in Australia.
The result places RMIT in the 201-250 band globally and improves our national position from equal 14th last year.
This continues RMIT's decade-long upward trajectory. Ten years ago, RMIT was ranked in the 401-500 band and equal 24th in Australia. Five years ago, we had risen to the 301-350 band and equal 23rd nationally.
That progress places RMIT among the leading global improvers in the THE rankings over the past decade and reflects sustained work across the University to improve the quality, relevance and effectiveness of teaching and research.
This year, we recorded higher scores for teaching and research reputation and improved across all four measures of research quality, particularly citation impact and research strength.
RMIT remains in the global top 100 for international outlook, ranking 81st globally. This measure considers the proportion of international staff and students, as well as international research collaboration. RMIT scored full points for international staff and close to full points for international students, demonstrating the University's continued appeal to students and staff from around the world.
Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Alec Cameron thanked academic and professional staff for their contribution.
"Rankings reflect work happening right across the University, from the quality of our teaching and research, to the strength of our connections with industry and communities," Professor Cameron said.
"Our demonstrable progress is thanks to the collective efforts of our people, and it builds RMIT's global reputation, helping students see what an RMIT education can offer, including the skills and connections they need for their future.
"It also reinforces the value of working with RMIT for government and industry partners, creating more opportunities to collaborate on research, student experiences and other initiatives that respond to real-world needs."
The THE result follows RMIT's strong performance in the 2027 QS World University Rankings, where we ranked equal 119th globally and 10th in Australia, our highest global position in 20 years.
THE World University Rankings assess universities across teaching, research environment, research quality, industry and international outlook. This year, THE ranked 2,297 institutions across 118 countries and territories, up from 2,191 last year.
