Roadmap to help deliver more quarry resources

A new Strategic Extractive Resources Roadmap will improve the mapping of resources and planning provisions to better identify and protect rock, sand and gravel in priority locations across Victoria

To support growth, better liveability, more jobs and a stronger economy, the state needs access to more raw materials close to where they are needed.

Infrastructure and housing developments are driving growth for the quarry sector across the state, and in the six years prior to 2021, production of building raw materials grew by 25 per cent to a bumper 64 million tonnes.

The Roadmap will build on Helping Victoria Grow, Victoria's first Extractive Resources Strategy, by identifying land with the greatest suitability for future quarrying. This will be done in a way that draws on the best available geoscience and resource information, balanced with land use, cultural and community interests.
