Australia's top volleyball competition is coming to Bomaderry, with Shoalhaven Indoor Sports Centre hosting the Mahindra Australian Volleyball Super League over the next two weekends.
NSW Phoenix will take on Perth Steel in a women's and men's double-header on Saturday 7 November, followed by all four Super League Semi Finals on Saturday 14 November.
It's the second year running that Council has supported the major sporting event by hosting Super League games at the Shoalhaven Indoor Sports Centre, attracting players, families and supporters from across Australia to the city.
"It's a great opportunity to see elite athletes playing at the highest level right here in our backyard. We're proud to support the Mahindra Australian Volleyball Super League and welcome players, officials and visitors to the Shoalhaven," said Mayor Patricia White.
"Events like this showcase our wonderful facilities and generate economic benefits for local businesses," Cr White said.
On Saturday 7 November, the NSW Phoenix women and men will play Perth Steel, with matches starting at 3 pm and 4.30 pm respectively. One ticket covers both games, with prices starting from $8 and children under 14 admitted free with a ticketed adult. Doors open at 1.30 pm.
A week later, on Saturday 14 November, the Bomaderry centre will host all four Super League Semi Finals from 10 am, featuring the nation's leading women's and men's teams competing for a place in the championship decider. Tickets cost $10 and one ticket covers all games.
NSW Phoenix players from the South Coast include Mireille Smith (Nowra), Mali Towers and Pascal Eckermann (both from Wollongong).
"We're thrilled to welcome the Mahindra Australian Volleyball Super League back to Shoalhaven for a second consecutive year," NSW Phoenix CEO Rebecca Walter said.
"We're proud to bring the excitement, energy and atmosphere of national competition back to the South Coast. Shoalhaven has quickly become a favourite stop on the Super League calendar and we can't wait to showcase our sport and this incredible region once again," Ms Walter said.
The event has received strong support from volleyball clubs across the South Coast and Illawarra, with opportunities for young people to be involved as ball kids and volunteers on 7 and 14 November.
Children aged 8 to 17 can also take part in a free Spikeroos/NSW Phoenix volleyball camp on 7 November from 12 pm to 2 pm (Volleyball NSW membership required). Participants will learn from accredited coaches before watching the national competition. Register here.
Community members interested in volunteering can register through Volleyball NSW, and receive a complimentary ticket to the event.
