Roadside grassfire prompts trailer warning

A Hazelwood North fire has prompted a CFA reminder for Victorians to ensure their trailer brake and wheel bearing components are in good mechanical order before they hit the road this holiday season.

Roadside grassfire prompts trailer warning

CFA District 27 Acting Commander Gavin Parker said faulty components were a common cause of roadside fires.

The warning came after a grassfire in Sanders Rd, Hazelwood North, earlier today.

CFA volunteer firefighters and fire trucks from Hazelwood North, Morwell, Traralgon South, Traralgon West brigades responded to the fire, supported by CFA staff and support vehicles, Fire Rescue Victoria firefighters and Victoria Police.

Acting Commander Parker said the fire was burning in long grass on both sides of the road and started as a result of a failed trailer brake drum that had shattered, igniting the dry roadside fuel.

The fire was quickly contained by CFA and FRV firefighters, with police assisting with traffic control.
