Robbery And Assault Charges, Smithfield

Police have charged a teenage boy following their investigations into several break and enters at Smithfield this morning, December 7.

It's alleged that at around 4am, two boys have attended a Mount Millman Drive complex and have gained entry to multiple units before stealing several items and fleeing.

Police will also allege the pair assaulted an 86-year-old man who was an occupant inside one of the units.

The man was not seriously injured and was assessed by paramedics at the scene.

A 16-year-old Cairns boy was charged with one count each of robbery, serious assault of person over 60, receiving tainted property and unlawful use of a motor vehicle. He is due to appear in the Cairns Children's Court on Monday, December 9.

Investigations are continuing.
