The Allan Labor Government is delivering a new space for young people and families to play, socialise and learn more about Country, with the completion of an expansive new play precinct in Robinvale.
Minister for Regional Development Jaclyn Symes today announced the brand-new play precinct, funded through a $990,000 grant via Regional Development Victoria and $500,000 from the Labor Government's Local Sports Infrastructure Fund.
Named Ngiwa Kulaithi, which means 'to sit river' in the Latji Latji language, the precinct offers kids and kids-at-heart access to 5,000 square metres of play space, including a skate park and nature-play zones suitable for all ages and abilities.
The precinct features artwork by local First Nations artists Mariah Dunrobin and Stephanie Lingwoodock, that celebrates the area's Aboriginal cultural heritage and creates a sense of place and Country.
The new outdoor play area offers a destination for travellers in northwest Victoria and is expected to increase the number of visitors to the town, as well as enhancing Robinvale's liveability.
The project continues government investment in the area, with other initiatives including the Seasonal Workforce Accommodation Program and new key worker housing in Robinvale through the Regional Worker Accommodation Fund.
Construction of the precinct supported 26 jobs, with a further two ongoing roles created to manage maintenance of the precinct.
Funding for Ngiwa Kulaithi is part of the Labor Government's record support of more than $47 billion for rural and regional Victoria in just over a decade, to ensure more locals have jobs close to home and regional economies can thrive.
The new play precinct is the latest example of our commitment to making Robinvale an even better place to live, work, stay, invest and study. For more information, go to rdv.vic.gov.au.
