Rottnest Island Upgrades Boost Year-Round Appeal

The Cook Government has welcomed the completion of The Lodge Wadjemup, a significant infrastructure upgrade that enhances Wadjemup/Rottnest Island's capacity to host business events and cater to diverse visitor needs year-round.

Located behind the historic settlement and overlooking the iconic salt lakes, The Lodge Wadjemup offers109 rooms, includinginterconnecting family suites, aguest-only pool precinct, and aGathering Groundthat reflects the cultural significance of the site.

The newFunctions & Events Centreaccommodates up to140 guests, adding vital capacity to the island's business events infrastructure.

These new facilities complement existing venues such as Samphire Rottnest, Hotel Rottnest, and Discovery Resorts, offering a broader range of pricing and experiences for leisure and corporate travellers.

The development supports key initiatives under the Rottnest Island Management Plan 2023-28 and the Western Australian Visitor Economy Strategy 2033, which aim to grow business tourism, diversify the visitor base, and improve accessibility.

New interconnecting family rooms and poolside accommodation offer flexible options for families and groups, while seasonal campaigns like the Wrap Yourself in Wonder winter campaign encourage off-season travel with discounted ferry, accommodation, and experiences available until 31 August.

The Cook Government is committed to its economic diversification strategy to support tourism and hospitality businesses on Rottnest Island.

In 2023-24, Rottnest Island welcomed over 823,000 visitors by ferry adding to Western Australia's economy and tourism-filled jobs.

As stated by Tourism Minister Reece Whitby:

"Rottnest Island is an iconic tourism destination, and it's important we upgrade infrastructure and facilities to drive visitation to the Island.

"The Lodge Wadjemup adds valuable capacity to Rottnest Island's conferencing and accommodation infrastructure, complementing existing venues and supporting our goal to grow business events and year-round visitation.

"This development reflects our commitment to accessible, sustainable tourism and aligns with the State visitor economy strategy and the Rottnest Island Management Plan to position Western Australia as a leading destination for leisure and business travel.

"With new family-friendly accommodation and seasonal campaigns like Wrap Yourself in Wonder, Wadjemup continues to evolve as a compelling destination for families, groups and corporate travellers in every season."
