Premier Mark McGowan and Women's Interests Minister Simone McGurk have today met with leaders from across business, academia, government and not-for-profit organisations to discuss furthering gender equality and women's economic security.
The roundtable, hosted by the Hon. Kim Beazley AC, Governor of Western Australia, at Government House, was held in partnership with Chief Executive Women, which represents senior female leaders advocating for gender equality across a range of sectors.
Feedback gathered at the roundtable will help to inform the State Government's contribution to the development of the nationally consistent reporting framework on women's economic security that was agreed to by National Cabinet in August.
Western Australia is also committed to working with the Federal Government and the other States and Territories to respond to the recommendations of the Respect@Work report, and ensure that women are safe and free from violence in their homes, workplaces and communities.
The McGowan Government has demonstrated leadership in delivering gender equality within the senior ranks of the WA public service, but action is needed across all sectors to deliver better safety and security outcomes for all women.
As stated by Women's Interests Minister Simone McGurk:
"Research tells us that increasing women's economic security is key to improving women's overall safety.
"It is therefore important that we work not only to support women's safety, but to ensure they are equally represented across industries.
"We also need to ensure that women and their participation in the labour market are not left behind as the State continues to respond to COVID-19.
"Partnerships with organisations like Chief Executive Women are crucial as we collaborate with private industry and other sectors to create lasting solutions to barriers to women's economic security and safety in Western Australia."
