Leeton Shire Council is proud to announce that the Roxy Theatre (Stage 1) Redevelopment Project has received top honours at the Master Builders Association of NSW Excellence in Construction Awards. The project won in the Restoration/Adaptive Re-Use of an Historic Building ($6M–$20M) category, a division reserved for works on sites listed in the State Heritage Register.
This prestigious award recognises outstanding craftsmanship, innovation, and dedication to preserving heritage while creating contemporary community spaces. The accolade was awarded to Leeton Shire Council, in collaboration with Salisbury Construction. Peter Salisbury – a member of Master Builders – serves on the Roxy Project Management Office (PMO) as Construction and Contracts Manager.
Stage 1 of the Roxy redevelopment has delivered a revitalised, accessible cultural landmark for Leeton which is fully compliant with current legislation. Works included the refurbishment of the main auditorium, installation of retractable seating, upgraded sound and lighting systems, and modernised facilities such as new dressing rooms, toilets, reception area, and accessibility enhancements including lifts and wheelchair access. The upgrades have also equipped the Roxy to serve as a community evacuation centre during natural disasters.
Deputy Mayor and Portfolio Lead for Arts and Culture, Cr Michael Kidd, said the award was a tremendous honour for the community and a testament to the Roxy Project Management team's resilience.
"This recognition from the NSW Master Builders Association is an outstanding achievement for Leeton. The Roxy holds a special place in our town's history, and to see it honoured at this level is something we can all be proud of," Cr Kidd said.
"I particularly want to thank the Roxy Project Management Office team, comprised of Project Manager Gideon Vos, Construction and Contracts Manager Peter Salisbury, Project Director Katherine Herrmann, and Site Manager Shaun Deaton, who stepped up, and with the help of our architects and consultants, our project governance and project delivery teams, our insurer and, most importantly, our many local and regional trades, led the project to completion. Their professionalism and commitment ensured the Roxy's successful transformation."
Stage 1 of the Roxy redevelopment was jointly funded by the NSW Government ($7.2M), the Australian Government ($1M), and Leeton Shire Council ($4.2M).
