Runners urged to plan ahead for City2Surf as the CityFit Expo opens at Darling Harbour, NSW

Police are urging City2Surf participants to plan ahead by collecting their race bibs and dropping off their gear ahead of this weekend’s fun run, NSW Police say.

Event organisers are expecting large crowds at the Sydney International Convention Centre, Darling Harbour, from tomorrow (10 August 2017) through to Saturday (12 August 2017), as participants prepare for the race at the CityFit Expo.

More than 80,000 people are registered to take part in the world’s largest run from Sydney CBD to Bondi Beach this Sunday (13 August 2017), so runners are urged to attend the Expo early or expect significant delays.

Operation Harlow, a high-visibility police operation, will be in place this weekend to ensure the safety and security of all participants, event staff and the wider community.

Operation Harlow Commander, Superintendent Brad Hodder, urged participants to take this opportunity to plan ahead and visit the Expo to ensure you’re organised for race day.

"To avoid any last-minute stress, our best advice is to plan ahead, which includes participants arriving at the Expo early to pick-up your bib and drop off your finish-line gear," Supt Hodder said.

"Also remember if you’re not able to attend the Expo, a friend or family member can attend with your race information on your behalf.

"There’ll be limited time to check-in your gear on Sunday; however, you can easily check your gear in with staff at the Expo that will then be delivered to the finish line," Supt Hodder said.

"You’ll need your bib number to check your gear in and people are reminded its best not to leave valuables such as wallets or phones within the bags provided."

Supt Hodder said runners should also plan their trip to the Expo by utilising the many public transport services on offer.

"With tens of thousands of people registered for the City2Surf, we are expecting large crowds to make their way to Darling Harbour over the three days, so take the hassle out of travel plans and utilise public transport," Supt Hodder said.

"The Expo is anticipating the biggest crowds on Saturday so anyone pick up their bib is advised to allocate at least two hours for their visit."
