The City of Casey has welcomed a $1 million Victorian Government investment to support the future Cranbourne Library, part of the landmark Cranbourne Hub project.
Announced today through the Victorian Government's Living Libraries Infrastructure Program 2026-27, the funding will go towards the new Connected Libraries Cranbourne Branch to be located within the Hub.
The new library will replace the current Cranbourne branch, with improved spaces for reading, learning, study, digital access and community programs that support Cranbourne's growing community.
City of Casey Mayor Cr Michelle Crowther joined Minister for Local Government Hon. Tim Richardson, Member for Cranbourne Pauline Richards, Connected Libraries CEO Beth Luppino, Deputy Mayor Cr Anthony Walter and Cr Gary Rowe for the announcement.
Located at 1-3 Lyall Street, Cranbourne, the Hub will bring Council and community services together in one central location, making it easier for residents to access support, information and services.
Alongside the library, the three-storey Hub will also be home to Council's Cranbourne Customer Service Centre and Youth Information Centre, along with service partners Peninsula Community Legal Centre, Wellsprings for Women and WAYSS Ltd.
Mayor Cr Michelle Crowther thanked the Victorian Government for its contribution towards the new library.
"We're grateful to the Victorian Government for this $1 million investment, which will help deliver a much-needed community facility for Cranbourne," Cr Crowther said.
"The Cranbourne Hub will create a central place where people can connect with services, learning opportunities and support.
"We're excited to see the project continue to take shape and look forward to the Hub providing a modern, welcoming new home for the busy Cranbourne Library branch, alongside other important community services."
Connected Libraries CEO Beth Luppino said the new library would deliver quality community spaces to gather and learn in the heart of Cranbourne.
"Our current Cranbourne branch is one of the busiest in our network, and we know that the number of library members will continue to grow over coming years," Ms Luppino said.
"The new Cranbourne Hub library will provide free resources for people of all ages and stages. We are particularly interested in offering spaces, information services and programs that support teens and young adults in their lifelong learning journey, recognising that this is a significant and growing cohort in Cranbourne."
Detailed design work for the Cranbourne Hub is complete, with the project moving through procurement over the coming months. Construction is expected to begin in early 2027, with the Hub anticipated to open in 2029.
The project also forms part of Council's broader Building a Better Casey campaign, which is seeking State Government election commitments for priority projects and initiatives across Casey.
