- The Crew to commence daytime case management services
- Part of Cook Labor Government's $2.6 million investment in Rockingham Safe Night Space
- Services will connect people experiencing homelessness in the area to health, mental health, and housing supports
- Cook Labor Government continues to invest in local responses to homelessness that help people access the support they need
The Cook Labor Government is continuing to deliver local responses to homelessness across the State, with service provider The Crew commencing daytime case management services for people experiencing rough sleeping in Rockingham and surrounds from 2 November.
Local to the area, The Crew has extensive experience supporting vulnerable Western Australians and will be offering a range of tailored supports.
The daytime case management forms part of the Cook Labor Government's $2.6 million investment to establish and operate the Rockingham Safe Night Space, which was announced in September and will provide safe overnight shelter for up to 30 people experiencing homelessness per night.
The Safe Night Space is being delivered by The Crew and will operate using a low-barrier, trauma-informed approach designed to engage people who may be unable to access or sustain traditional accommodation options.
Investing in place-based responses to homelessness is a priority of the Cook Labor Government, which awarded the first five-year contracts for the Booraka Danjoo Coordinated Outreach Services earlier this year, delivering localised outreach and engagement across Perth's north-east, north-west, central, and southern corridors.
Another initiative, Mandurah Common Ground, is due for practical completion by the end of the year and will provide 50 self-contained apartments for adults experiencing homelessness or rough sleeping.
These initiatives strengthen the State's homelessness service system by connecting people with support where and when they need it, while helping to create pathways out of homelessness.
As stated by Homelessness Minister Matthew Swinbourn:
"The Crew is a highly respected service provider with extensive experience supporting Rockingham's most vulnerable people.
"People experiencing homelessness deserve trauma-informed, local responses that are tailored to their needs, and that is exactly what these case management services will offer to people sleeping rough in the Rockingham area.
"The Cook Labor Government remains committed to investing in practical, place-based responses to homelessness, and we will continue to work with service providers across the State to ensure Western Australians doing it tough are connected to the supports they need."
As stated by Rockingham MLA Magenta Marshall:
"I am delighted The Crew will begin daytime case management services, only weeks after the Cook Labor Government announced that it would be funding a Safe Night Space for people experiencing homelessness in Rockingham.
"The Crew is a highly regarded organisation in Rockingham and it's fantastic that they will be able to extend their services to help people with a range of needs, including pathways to housing, assistance with legal paperwork, and other relevant services."
