A 12-month trial aimed at creating a more pedestrian-friendly Little Malop Street hospitality precinct with increased outdoor dining is underway.
Automatic rising bollards have been installed and activated on Little Malop, between Dennys Place and Moorabool Street, preventing vehicles from entering the precinct daily from 10:00am to 4:00am the following morning.
The City has updated affected community members on the trial arrangements, including delivery and parking zones.
Vehicle access will be controlled via a keypad access code, with emergency services and residents of the precinct allowed 24-hour access. Entry between 10am-4am is restricted for businesses except in the case of an emergency.
Residents and business owners can apply for an access code by emailing [email protected] with their name, business/property/residential address, business name (if applicable) and phone number.
The real-time data being collected will assist the City in reviewing the outcomes of the trial and assessing if the changed settings improved walkability.

The trial will contribute to Council's efforts to making the dining and entertainment precinct an even more appealing place by addressing safety issues with vehicles driving through.
Geelong's becoming known for its vibrant laneway culture and we want to continue to build on that by testing out a pedestrian safe zone that also increases the available space for events and activations.
