Safer Communities - New Katherine Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services Complex Opens

The TerritoryLabor Government is creating safer communities by ensuring our frontlineemergency responders have the best resources possible.

Today theMinister for Police, Fire and Emergency Services Nicole Manison attended theopening of the new $8.5 million Katherine Fire, Rescue and Emergency ServicesComplex.

The facilitycreated around 240 jobs during construction, and will be home to 15 career andauxiliary Fire and Rescue staff and Emergency Service volunteer staff.

The new station will provide modern firefightingand emergency capability needs and will improve response times to allow NTPFESto provide services more effectively.

It includes additional workspace for vehicles andsafety equipment, new training facilities, and accommodation for fire crews orvolunteers on standby.

The TerritoryLabor Government is ensuring our vital emergency personnel have the bestresources possible to do the tough job they have.

This facilitywill ease the cramped conditions of the old fire station and provide KatherineFirefighters and emergency service volunteers with a modern facility that theyneed and that they deserve. It also gives our hardworking Katherine police more operational space at theirstation.

This isa great investment for community safety in Katherine.
