While repairing the Sandringham Family Leisure Centre pool, we have discovered more concealed issues with the concrete surrounding the nearly 50-year-old structure. This means the pool will take longer to repair and reopen than originally planned.
Although this delay is unavoidable, we understand it's disappointing and disruptive for our community. Our builder, engineer, project team, and pool operator BlueFit are working together to resolve the issues as quickly as possible.
We expect to confirm a new reopening date in the coming weeks. At this stage, the pool is likely to remain closed until November-December 2025.
While the primary focus of the works was cleaning, patching and repainting the steel roof structure to prevent future corrosion, the project will also deliver important upgrades to the pool deck. These include concreate repairs, a new 'monotek' finish, installation of new pool edging tiles, improvements to the pool filtration system and other minor repairs.
The gym, physio, café, carpark and basketball stadium will continue to remain open during the works.
We thank the community for their patience and look forward to welcoming everyone back to the pool in late 2025.
