Sandringham precinct update

Latest news for the projects underway in Sandringham.

Library and Masonic Hall

Council appreciates the cooperation from traders and residents as works are underway to complete the Sandringham library upgrade and new maternal and child health centre.

During the Christmas break the site will shut down and works will resume in early January 2020.

We are pleased to report that works for the library are on track. The next milestone for the project will involve installing the new roof.

We anticipate full project completion in June 2020. While we remain under construction, the temporary 'express' library facility is operating from 92 Station Street Sandringham.

Meanwhile design investigations for refurbishing the Masonic Hall building on Abbott Street has commenced. The upgrades will provide more space for community services and facilities with construction expected to start in late 2020 and be completed in 2021.

Car park closures

Council's contractor 2Construct will need to undertake drainage works during the quieter summer period as part of the library upgrade.

Construction will require the temporary closure of a section of the car park at the rear of the library on Chalmers Avenue. Works are expected to commence on Monday 13 January and take two weeks to complete. This area will remain fenced off while works are underway.

Update on streetscape upgrade

We have completed community consultation on the Sandringham shopping precinct project. The next stage will involve reviewing the feedback collected and compiling a report for Councillors in early 2020.
