Save Date: 10 November is Open Day at Tuncurry Waste Centre

MidCoast Council

MidCoast Council and Resource Recovery Australia are hosting an open day of tours and workshops as part of National Recycling Week 2022.

"During National Recycling Week, and every week, we want to help you learn how to reduce, reuse and recycle better," said Mr David Rees, Manager of MidCoast Council Waste Services.

"We know that recycling can be confusing, but to build a more sustainable future, we all need to know how to correctly deal with the waste we make and to see waste as a resource that can be reused and recycled," added Mr Rees.

The benefits include:

  • reducing the extraction of virgin materials for new products
  • saving the water and energy it takes to make them
  • helping the environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions from landfill

"Importantly, this week asks us to see waste as a resource to keep the materials in circulation for as long as possible," added Mr Rees.

We know that many people wish-cycle. This is putting something in the recycling bin in the hope it will be recycled, even if there is no evidence to prove this is possible.

National Recycling Week gives you an opportunity to learn what can be recycled where in the MidCoast, including:

  • What items can go in the yellow recycling bin
  • Problem waste such as batteries that can't go in the kerbside recycling bins but can be taken to a Community Recycling Centre
  • Repair and reuse options in the MidCoast

Visit Tuncurry Waste Management Centre on Open Day from 9am to 3pm and have your recycling questions answered in person, get a behind-the-scenes tour of the Community Recycling Centre and Materials Recovery Facility, the Reviva reuse shop, Waste Transfer Station, Return and Earn, Green Bikes and the Men's Shed.

Remember to wear your closed shoes and bring a hat and water bottle.
