Western Australia's scenic South West will become centre stage as the cameras start rolling for new locally produced feature filmThe Engagement Party.

Set in a house on a beach, the powerful character-driven psychological thriller delves into the history of two couples, exploring themes of trauma, love, friendship, and consent.

Supported by the Western Australian Regional Screen Fund, Screenwest and Lotterywest, filming for The Engagement Partyis underway in the South West before the production later moves to Perth.

Homegrown actor and WA Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) graduate, Dacre Montgomery, returns to WA as director for his debut feature film.

Montgomery (Stranger Things, Power Rangers, Elvis) will also feature in the film alongside Lily Sullivan (Evil Dead Rise, Picnic at Hanging Rock), Abbey Lee (Black Rabbit, Mad Max: Fury Road) and Arlo Green (M3GAN, Nautilus).

The Engagement Partyis written by Jory Anast, produced by Virginia Whitwell, Nick Batzias, Ian Booth and Nash Edgerton.

As stated by Creative Industries Minister Simone McGurk:

"Dacre Montgomery is an example of our homegrown talent, and it is great to see him return to WA to direct his debut feature film.

"Dacre brings skills and experience gained on international productions, which will inspire emerging WA creatives to pursue and expand their career in the creative industries.

"This local production will showcase the stunning locations WA has to offer, while creating around 95 local jobs and injecting an estimated $3 million into the WA economy, including around $1.05 million in regional WA."
