Department of Education and Training Important update on school bus operations - Greater Darwin Region

9 March 2026

The Department of Education and Training is currently monitoring several creek and river rises across rural areas in the Greater Darwin area that are impacting school bus travel this afternoon. These conditions can change quickly, and we are taking a cautious, safety‑first approach to ensure the wellbeing of all students.

The safety of students, staff, and bus drivers is our highest priority. We are working closely with the transport provider as conditions evolve.

If a rural school bus cannot continue its route, students will be taken to Taminmin College, and parents will be notified to collect their children from the Taminmin College gymnasium.

Berry Springs Primary School students will be supervised at the school until such time families can collect them.

Schools will remain open as long as necessary to ensure every child gets home safely.

Schools will continue to use their usual communication channels-including SMS, email, and school apps-to keep families updated. We encourage families to keep their phones nearby this afternoon in case conditions change.

We appreciate the community's understanding as we navigate these weather‑related challenges. Our teams are working closely with authorities to ensure safe transport for all students, and we will continue to monitor conditions throughout the afternoon and keep families informed.
