People in Waipara in North Canterbury are advised to follow directions of local emergency services due to a large scrub fire.
Police have been assisting Fire and Emergency NZ this evening with evacuations of residents in the area, including on Waikari Valley Road, Shell Rock Road, and Glenmark Drive.
People are asked to avoid the area and, if resident, consider self-evacuation.
Those evacuated are asked to please register at a centre set up at Waipara Memorial Hall, even if you are not staying there tonight.
