Breda, The Netherlands – Tasmania, Australia September 4, 2025

Netherlands-based, global leader in animal nutrition, Orffa, and Australian leader in cutting methane emissions, Sea Forest, have announced an exclusive and long-term distribution agreement and partnership to access the fast-growing European Union.

The agreement includes distribution of the Sea Forest's SEAFEED™ range of products across the EU, which has about 78 million cattle, as well as on a non-exclusive basis to other countries worldwide.

Sea Forest's SEAFEED™ supplement, based on replicated bio actives from red seaweed (Asparagopsis), is addressing climate change through abatement of methane emissions via animal nutrition.

The SEAFEED™ range of products is designed to combat methane emissions in ruminants and its entry into the EU signifies a major development for the company as it is one of the world's most significant agricultural sectors.

Sam Elsom, CEO of Sea Forest said "our deep understanding of the bio-actives found in Asparagopsis is having global impact and addresses an urgent worldwide need to reduce methane emissions. Connecting with a specialist in animal feed additives with Orffa allows Sea Forest to reach out to industry partners and stakeholders across the European continent."

Arno van der Aa, Director of Marketing & Innovation of Orffa commented "Orffa has always been an innovative player in the animal feed industry, recognizing future industry needs. As methane reduction initiatives are receiving more interest, this is the moment to for Sea Forest's market entrance.

"We have worked already for years on this challenge, and based on our findings, we believe that together with Sea Forest we can bring a unique and highly effective solution to market that can fill a growing need," he added.

Many EU countries have introduced subsidies and levies on cattle farmers to reduce methane emissions and meet their climate goals (see examples below).

Orffa and Sea Forest have collaborated already for several years in trials with European universities and industry stakeholders to allow the safe and efficient use of SEAFEED™ under EU conditions as the basis for product registrations and subsidy schemes.

A large number of countries have committed to the Global Methane Pledge, ensuring efforts will be made to effectively address climate change. As methane is a stronger greenhouse gas than CO2, it is potentially the quickest way to address climate change. Methane reduction is also part of many large companies' Scope 3 efforts to become climate neutral.
