Sealing Roper Highway to Ngukkur

The Territory Labor Government is continuing to deliver upgrades to the Roper Highway.

These upgrades form part of the joint investment with the Australian Government on the Roads of Strategic Importance (ROSI) program, and will provide improved access to the major aboriginal communities of Ngukurr, Numbulwar and Rittarangu (Urapunga), as well as to the fishing and tourist attractions of the Roper River and Limmen National Park.

Local Territory Company Allan King & Sons has been awarded a $25 million tender to seal and upgrade close to 20 kilometres of the highway from the Wilton Bridge to the Ngukkur Community.

The upgrades will provide:

improved overall road safety and riding qualityimproved flood immunity reduced closure times minimised vehicle weight and type restrictionsimproved access for nearby communities.

Territory business Black Cat Civil is also undertaking $3.37 million worth of upgrades of 4.7 kilometres between the Wilton and Roper bridges, as well as the upgrade of the Roper Highway at the Urapunga Access Road intersection.

The upgrades and improvements to the Roper Highway forms part of the Northern Territory Government and Australian Government's commitment to raise the safety and amenity of the roadway.
